Saving does not work ? Should it ?
on:
December 19, 2009, 05:46:05 pm
Hello,
Each time I complete some levels and I turn off my DS, I have to start everything from the beginning - it seems that the game progress (unlocked levels) is not saved. I've tried both the EFS and FAT versions, DLDI-patched and not - none of them seemed to have reboot-persistent saves. Am I missing something ? Do I have to finish more levels to get to a "save point" or something ? Or maybe there are no saves, like on oldschool machines ?
Thanks !
PS. I have a DS Lite with SuperCard Lite (microSD).

You are the second person to report problems with saves and the supercard. This must be an issue with the supercards firmaware. Are you running the latest?
The game saves during the start of a new level and also when you return to the title screen. This is not instant but should be fairly quick. If you have played a game and returned to the title screen and then turned off, it should have saved fine.
I can only state, as before, this is a fault with the supercards firmware as the saving works on every other card (no one has mentioned problems with any others).
So, I cannot help more than that - sorry!

You could try updating to MMLL v1.05?

Hi, I'm having the same problem on a DS Lite and new Games Engine R4 SDHC upgrade with 1.14b firmware. Other games save OK, but not this one - there's no .sav file when I open the micro SD card up on the laptop. Hope I am just doing something noob. Any ideas?
Great game by the way.

If you are using the EFS version of the game, the save data is contained within the ManicMinerLL.nds file, if you are using FAT, this is then in the Data/MMLL directory.
You are the first person to mention this card, so I have had no other reports about it, but saving should happen automatically everytime you clear a level or return to the title screen?

Thanks. I am using FAT. I downloaded MMLL through a link from another website, I bet it was the EFS version.

Please download the latest version from
http://www.headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=mmll
I would personally suggest the EFS version, but if that does not work, then the FAT.
Hopefully this will fix the saving problem, please let me know.

Nope, still won't work.
For the FAT version, I put the data folder from the archive in the root of the micro SD, then tried ManicMinerLL.nds first in the root then in a 'Games' subfolder but neither worked. However, it looks like it tried to write a file called 'Save.datFLASH09' to the 'data\MMLL\data\' folder (same folder as Save.dat).

I also tried the EFS version but that didn't save either. Do I need to download something else to get that to work?
At least I am getting very good at the first level.

At the moment I can honestly say, I am totally confused?
the 'FLASH09' is part (should be) of the data used to id the save.dat file, somehow, this is being appended to the end of the filename rather than in the file?
To me, it looks like a problem with the latest revision of Devkit that is affecting file access (both in FAT and EFS) and this is perhaps also what it causing the problem with music not playing (is not being located properly).
I will have to look into it! (the only problem is I have no way of replicating it!)

Looking at the code, I can see there is a problem of the filename extending into the buffer! This has to have been introduced in the latest libnds.
So..
