Hi all.
I've recently accepted the challenge of converting HITMW (Hit Miner Willy?!) to the Spectrum.
Does anybody have any useful information, links etc for getting it running under emulation, level formats (etc)? Would also love to hear from anybody currently converting it to any other platform...
Cheers!

Flash, you reading this? :)
One other member (sokurah) is porting it to PC, the topic is below yours (https://retrobytesportal.gameex.com/index.php?topic=295.0) so check that out. Also, you can find HITMW Psion related info here - https://retrobytesportal.gameex.com/index.php?topic=131.0 . Flash can fill you in on details and maybe even provide you the data from the Psion source. I also have it here together with levels.doc and converted tiles in bmp if that can help?

I have sent the source code, though that should help with the level data as the editor is included (I believe).
Sokky has cracked the level data and may be willing to share that seeing they are different formats/systems?
I, sadly, cannot remember a great deal about the games code and execution, though once something is happening, I will happily try to decipher my code and aid.

I've got it running under emulation on DosBox now... but strangely it doesn't recognise any key-presses, although other apps do.
-
That is strange? There is nothing unusual in the keyboard polling?
It would be easier if I could find a 3a for you to borrow.

Just found some notes on the Psion3c emulator, and it states "It doesn't accept direct keyboard scan codes - this is mostly used in games". Could this be the problem? :(

Might just grab one from eBay - would be a nice additional to my range of old machines.

Seeing dear ol' Bobs has not mentioned here and perhaps it has been missed...
A demo of the Spectrum version of the game has been released (Link on the facebook 'sorry' site)

OK, I think I found the snapshot, gonna try soon (where's me zx emu :) )!
-
Ahh..just played a bit on zx iphone emu, well..can't force the actual movement via emu interface but I'll get there.
Most importantly tho, this kicks ass, seriously! Next to Abe's Odysee on ZX, this is the best thing made for this lil machine for me.
;)

He is doing a wonderful job - all 64 levels in one load as well...
The only thing wrong is the control is a little off at the moment.
-
Looks really wonderful, I can't believe it's actually...real! :P
I'll have to play it on desktop, can't bloody force either 'keyboard' or 'kempston' mode on emu on iphone. :(
Did try the cursor mode but, of course, you can play it that way.

It is pretty sweet! :)
ps. I remember that 2 years ago, some tosser was doing a pc version? Did I dream that as well?
Oh well... LOL

It's no secret that I've dropped the ball on this one, but it seems Bobs has finished his Speccy version...and really nice it is too.

I'm not 100% sure it's completely finished as he hasn't announced it yet - as far as I can see, but either way - if it isn't it's very close.

The game is released and announced on his page, if you checked out http://www.bobs-stuff.co.uk/horace.html, but the download is also on http://www.bobs-stuff.co.uk/download.html.
Downloaded, but check it out later :-D.
Nice effort to do a remake that way.
He need to annonce that on Retroremakes too, hehe.
