Title: ArsenalDS
Post by: Lobo on July 12, 2009, 10:49:50 pm
Hmmm..my friend smea has started a vert shmup for DS not so long ago.  Dunno about details but it's meant to be 3d gfx, at least for the ships/objects. However, seems like he's using the editor from one other DS game so it might be a breeze designing stuff for it.
Now, you can check it here http://smealum.net/
and if you pester him enough and offer help in creating maybe attack waves and general stuff with ed (health/bonus/pickups/stats/crap) I can speed  him up a bit to at least make one full long level with ships/boss and such.  Also, I can make the 3d models/enviro/rest and it might be one of those games where people can ask for implementation of different stuff, directly add or remove things via editor or suggestions, say 'community driven' or something. ;)

saw the screenies of your friend, Lobo, and the game looks good... if you can introduce me to him, i might be able to help some (even tho, im struggling to get my own game published on a portal right now)...

Sure, I'll fire him an email and ask about details. Also, note that those screens and everything are just placeholders, an idea really, you can try out the very simple build here http://bit.ly/J7HIA (quite a bullet hell there, if you're trying it in emu like No$, make sure to click on the screen for the game to start! :D).
I'll let you know.

EDIT: Ah, also, if Flash or HK or anyone around are willing to help, smea (and meself) would certainly be glad to make at least one cool level and just have fun with it, y'know. If it works well, it's easier to concentrate on the full thing with suggestions from everyone interested in it. Everybody benefits as it can be a nice frankenstein shmup lab. ;)

EDIT EDIT DAMMIT: Also, ah! It has to be like DonPachi because it's reichmarshall approved (see, already issuing orders!)  :D

well, im a cave lover myself, so yeah, im interested in contributing...

and about my game, its not a shmup, its actually a puzzler (and when im done with it, i'll be making a 3D platformer...), i'll dorp some screenies soon, if you want.

The only problem with posting a hiscore is that once the cheat is unlocked you can get bazillion points :P.

Also, for that shmup I've mentioned, smealum replied (sorry for waiting, just got back home) and said it's all OK.
However, he's on vacation for the next 2 weeks, testing wine somewhere south France (while I only get the beer :( ). Once he's back, whoever is interested can get the editor and start cranking levels/patterns while two of us do the rest.
It should be fairly simple process at least for me to get the gfx ready as it's all 3d so we'll see then.

Count me in Lobo... i'd love to see what can we do... im gonna try and make some patterns here, and see how i can translate them to the tools used on tht project.

and, yeah, i'll post my scores when i feel im rady to do so... right now, im just learning the levels, and how to beat them w/o gettin hurt that much... now, with the tip given, im gonna try a different approach to the levels and see how far can i go.

Excellent, I'll let everyone know once we start crankin' this one (Flash and HK invited as well with tips, anti suggestions and general rambling, of course)  :D.

Until then, we're back on the regular schedule...CNN reports that the game called WarhawkDS has hidden satanic messages embedded such as'buy me a beer'...'beer'...and 'mo' beer'.....

EY, sorry to barge in again on WH related to something slightly else but what can I do? I'm evil.
Anyhoo, for the guy(s) that have been interested in that shmup I've mentioned, ye we sorta did a few things here and there (got like some interface, about 8 enemies, boss, player, some crap, etc) but editor is prolly not ready yet as we're trying to get something playable out of another DS game first :D.

So..I'll let ya know once it's ready and all that so don't quit your day jobs yet  ;D.

Here's just a lil pic of player ship so you didn't have to read all this crap for nothing!

(forgot to mention, the game shalt be called ARSEnal !!TamTamTam!!)

Thanx. :D Yeah, as I've mentioned in a few posts up there (after some people asked for more shmups-reasonably so), smealum and meself have this one in progress. Basically, 3D ships and scenery and 2d stuff for fx and bkg images (starfield/sky/crap), something like Nanostray.
The idea was to have people (who are interested) to get the editor (which smealum has) to create level attacks/formations and smealum and I do the rest, glue it together in unholy harmony and let the shooting begin. Also, this means that we can let the others throw in ideas about such as- What kinda weapons to have/start with, do they upgrade, is it chain based, score based, time based systems, what pickups etc. until the best choices are made and selected.
Anyhoo, as soon as we have some playable thing done with our other game (which might be soon-fingers crossed), there will be more info about this at  http://smealum.net/  so make sure to stick about and around for more news.

Also, this is just a mock up (ships will be much smaller than this, of course) to see how the game will look like on DS.

Holy crap, if the game can actually do those kind of graphics, count me interested. And if it borrows AT LEAST A BIT of Warhawk's gameplay, I'm sold.

Errr... I mean "I'm downloaded"... okay you get the picture ;D :D

'looks great ! I hope this will come to life soon !

EDIT : you guys are French (or at least French speaking) ??? Why don't you come on shmup.com then to discuss your projects ? this way : http://forum.shmup.com/
Title: Re: ArsenalDS
Post by: Lobo on August 18, 2009, 09:34:27 pm
Yeah, it should look like that because these are all the elements that will be in game. The only difference is that I've rendered it in Max with filter maps turned on so it shades the curves where on DS it should actually look sharper (for the better methinks).  ;)

I don't speak French but smealum does (he French) so I'll tell him to stop by the place and shamelessly advertise the game once we get somewhere with it.  8)

Unfortunately, I didn't really work on the game at all since Lobo posted this.  :(
I hope I will soon, but I'm not sure when exactly. What needs to be done right now is mainly the level editor (and pattern editor), and it's a real pain, which is why I kind of paused the development for now.  :P
Also, I've gotten back to work on DawnSeekers, another project of ours very recently, which clearly doesn't help arsenal. ^^"

Hey, buddy, you came to the lair? Cool. Ah, Arsenal is sorta simple experiment to see how it would go really. I don't think we have any idea about it besides  that it's a 3D shmup without being extremely hard hopefully. Something I wanted to play in Nanostray but jeeez I think even trainer can't help me past the first Boss or so.

What's #tod2?  :)

It is the sequel to #tod 'SILLY!' LOL

(either that, or an IRC channel!)

#tod2 is an IRC channel on EFNet started by LiraNuna for his sequal to Tales of Dugar. I've been visiting the channel for a number of years now and smealum happens to go there as well (as well as a number of other well known DS scener's).

Well... After over a year here's an update !
The truth is I haven't worked on the game at all in the past year. But I got a level editor I started in august for an iPhone project to a usable state last week, so I figured I might as well make my DS shmup compatible.
And now here I am with our first official demo of arsenalDS ! :D
(http://smealum.net/hah2.png) (http://smealum.net/hah1.png) (http://smealum.net/arsenal/menu2.png)
Here's a download link : http://smealum.net/arsenal/arsenal311210.rar
It's not much (only one level :( ) but I'm still pretty satisfied with the overall result, although it lacks sfx for example.
I also released my level editor with it. It's overly complicated and probably not the most straightforward way of making shmup levels, but I still thought it was worth a shot as iirc, lobo wanted the editor to be public. :)

Actually I got the music from modarchive.org so I'm not really sure who made the music. I didn't find exactly what I wanted so the music may sound a little off sometimes, but it's the best I could find. I do really like the menu music though.
By the way, here's a video of the game I made for people who can't try it : ;)

"SHMUP" is my middlename. Pretty nice SHMUP there @Smea

Pretty nice site you got here. I like the aura of this board. Very loose.

I just discovered this site through Headspin's site and has been a lurker ever since.

When I was looking at Star Castle I remember thinking "that looks familiar, is that one of Sok's games?". They use those kikstart.eu links so I didn't know (if I had of seen a tardis link I would have known it was you). Anyway just followed the link and lo and behold it took me to http://tardis.dk/wordpress/?page_id=647. So that's great you are both in the same scan!

EDIT: I just noticed your name is in the article!

Detective DS would been nice to see ported to iPhone OS, if we can get a official version of it (but still keep DS version for sure)....... Howover I havent see Lobo in long time now (he did earlier said he dident have time most of the year allready, so), but its mostly only tweeks here and there needs.
