Title: Galencia C64
Post by: Lobo on September 03, 2017, 03:29:58 am
Anyone here seen this upcoming c64 game? https://galencia.itch.io/galencia (actually available already as download but a full boxed version incoming soon)
I think I mentioned it to SF some time ago. Anyhoo, Flash might know the guy, Jason Aldred (I'm yet to check the games he did back in the c64 day  :-[) so he's doing this one with a couple of peeps, I'm sorta helping out with manual design and some illustrations. Anyhoo, I mentioned Warhawk and he remembers it, quote "Warhawk was one of those amazing budget releases that was better than most full price titles!". There, that might make you go back to asm one of these days... :)

Looks rather wonderfully put together. Great use of the systems limitations.

I don't think I knew him in the day though, but rather chuffed with his kind words :)

ps. Assembler you say?

So that's that Next thingie, looks cool and fancy, methinks Soks mentioned getting one, tho he professed only to do C64 games now that he is 'out of that closet'.  :D

Yep, some really nice surprises in this game, dunno how it was pulled, the intro stuff is rather impressive too. :D

yes... im purchased the game. its also a fun game too.

Its a cool multi plexed sprites he have used it and have make sure he newer use more than 6 enemies on a line (last 2 is for shots).

The intro is also used rasterline, multiplexed sprites and mixed char mode both hi and lo graphics.

The black line that cover the chars is just extended sprites that moving.

Im should have taken a look here eailer :-), and its the first C64 im purchased in very long time.

So its smart use of multiplexed sprites for sure.

Its a 32kb game.

...lab analysis...

Now that was a C64 sprites lab analysis right there. ;)
Just remembered that the intro somewhat reminds me of the Retrograde, I like em when they have some big sprites roaming about the scenery!
The 'big box' publisher is protovision, btw, the same peeps that will print out that Sam Journey you mentioned earlier.

they have been very very long about Sam Journey, which also looks and fell excellent.

This game does not have that much backgroud, just excellent use of multiplexed sprites.

You know..it's a long journey..  ;)

Hehe, dunno what's up with me today with these fancy comments, must be all the turpentine inhaled yesterday. :)

PS. Agreed, Sam's got some niiiice gfx in there, Galencia being shmup has most of the bkg as usual, dark with stars but yea they used sprites to max.
There's also one other game (just played on reset64 mag disk) called 'The Bear Essentials', very cool and movement oddly reminds me of Jack the Nipper. :)

Hi all,

Galencia was my C64 game of the year last year (Sam's came out a bit too late to influence my vote).  Jason Aldred is currently writing a sequel to Galencia which has vertically scrolling stages and Gyruss-style stages.  It's looking really good!
