Oops, I did it again...I started a new game...but it's a quickie.
Over at RR the achiveyment/challenge of the month is "do something with Mario in it" - or "Mar10" for "March 2010". Nutters...they should stop with those damn achiveyments cos I can't say 'no' and they're not good for my pile of WIPs.
I wasn't going to join the fun - I hate Mario...that fat little bearded plummer bastard, but in a moment of weakness, while balancing on a...porcelain sculpture, and reading an old magazine, I noticed an ad for Oh Mummy and I thought "That's so simple - I can do that in no time".
...and the main character already looks like Mario, so I can just have the player control Mario and I don't even have to call it something clever...like "Oh Mario". Even better.
The game really is criminally simple...which is good, because it has to be finished before the end of March. That's not a problem, though, since I've coded on it 3 evenings now and most things are already in place. You can walk around the (simple) maze and if you've walked all around a tomb it will open up (no contents are revealed yet, though).
I've made things easy for myself by using the source from The Snowman to build on, so things like highscore/setup/redefinable keys are also working. I've also re-used the AI so the monsters -hopefully soon to be mummies, also walk happily around the playingfield.
Since I'm using the code from The Snowman I'm using it's ressources too, but luckily only very few ressources are needed - there's only 1 screen-layout and only 1 monster. Piece of cake.
Here's a screenshot...which looks like a combination between The Snowman and the original Amstrad version of Oh Mummy.
