Chinese soup noodles and fried dumplings at a place where they know my face and I guessed I'd get a seat after an hour of unwanted and pretty intense rollercoaster rides, then a couple of hours of shakin' all over every few minutes, all without leaving the flat, like some grand unwanted treat from Mother Nature. Gas was out, so had to eat out.

Last night was better, Swiss packaged potato (the best), what the supermarket calls bologna sausage, never having been to America, I'll take their word for it, tasty, plus fresh carrots, tomatoes, and eschallots, all placed in the same frying pan with exactly the right timing, plus garlic soup with parsley and black pepper.

Very delicious in the colder months, it's not just garlic, other ingredients include chicken stock and apples.

I am a huge fan of soups, stews, and broths. A fave of mine is Mulligatawny.

Mulligatawny is good, but my all-time favourite is pea and ham soup,mother's lazy, lumpy version nearly put me off for life, but nana later showed how to do it right. No idea where to get the irreplaceable ingredient around here (good fresh hambonefrom the butcher's).

Best with rye, black or similar bread, lightly toasted.

Not my own cooking! It's a fish and pork broth, with noodles, bamboo shoots, a few eschallot slices, garlic and crushed sesame seeds to taste. Fatty as hell, but it is bloody cold out, felt like something special.

Nahh, just sayin' that it was St. Patrick's Day yesterday and I went straight to the pub after work, so I didn't get any dinner...so all that beer kinda was my dinner.
...but not with a fork - I'm not that patient. :)

On a more serious note. I had to look up Mulligatawny as I'd never heard of it before.
It sounds really good and I've printed out a couple of recipes so I'll try to make it some day.

Do you really put pepper in it? Was a bit surprised by a couple of older fellows at a pub I used to frequent, they really did treat stout (can't recall if it was Guinness) as soup, throwing in salt, pepper, and (at least one of them) a dash of tomato juice. Made sense on second thought, but still haven't tried it myself. :-\

Yes, it never occured to me before I saw it, will have to try it at least once now that the thread reminded me of it.

Now eating a tortilla foldover, with garlic soup (plus pepper and parsley) on the side.

Only posting the pic. because the delicious spiced gouda in it is from Denmark.

I do enjoy Gouda. It is one of my fave Cheeses (Fave is perhaps Emmental or a nice Bavarian Smoked Cheddar)

Did nice chicken breasts in an Oyster and Ginger sauce last night, served on a bed of Cabbage, mushrooms, spinach, and water cress. Was a real treat.

Bog standand Chicken curry for tea tonight though :(
